With over 450 years of experience, Canson ® has unique expertise and know-how. Founded in 1557 by the Montgolfier family, the development of the company is closely linked to the history of France and the history of art.
Innovation is in the DNA of the company. The Montgolfier family invented the first hot-air balloon in 1782. But above all, they are paper manufacturers. Over the centuries, the company developed numerous manufacturing processes, such as the "Dutchman" for cutting rags, mass coloration for a completely solid-colored paper, etc. They also introduced vellum and later, in 1809, tracing paper. In 1865 Canson received a patent for a Photo Paper, which simplifies the printing process.
